Julep Opens in RiNo | The Denver Ear

One of Denver’s most respected chefs, Kyle Foster, and his wife, Katy Foster, proprietor of Stir Cooking School, have announced the opening of  Julep, in Denver’s ultra-hot RiNo neighborhood.

Considered one of the most highly anticipated new restaurants of 2018, Julep brings the history and traditions of the south to Denver’s RiNo neighborhood in a new development at 3258 Larimer Street.

After more than six years working as a chef and butcher at some of Denver’s favorite restaurants including Rebel Restaurant and Colt & Gray, where he rose from line cook to Chef de Cuisine, Kyle will now serve as owner, proprietor and Executive Chef at Julep Restaurant.

Kyle’s wife, Katy, is the proprietor at the enormously successful Stir Cooking School. Kyle and Katy both grew up in the South and wanted to bring their “family to table” traditions to Denver. The parents of two small children, Henry and Lucy, Kyle and Katy believe that gathering around a table for a meal together is an important family ritual.

“This has been a labor of love for us and we are thrilled to open Julep Restaurant to the public,” said Kyle Foster. “Our ‘family to table’ concept is an homage to my Southern roots, bringing simple, good food – and cocktails – to Denver’s culinary scene.”

Before opening Julep, the Fosters traveled throughout the South – Louisville, Kentucky; Charleston, South Carolina; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; and Dallas, Texas; to name a few – to find inspiration for Julep and its menu.

“Julep’s menu honors the traditions I learned from my mother, who was born in Savannah, Georgia, and my great grandfather, a Kentuckian,” says Foster. “We use his techniques, recipes and stories to keep the family traditions alive and these same traditions serve as the inspiration behind Julep.”

Designed by Momoko Morton of Naka Interiors, who also designed Stir Cooking School, Julep’s 3,200 square feet of space – including an outdoor patio and indoor mezzanine level – honors the history and traditions of Southern hospitality by presenting a warm and elegant atmosphere while maintaining the masculinity and grit for which southern hospitality is known.

The industrial space is filled with unique statement pieces that give a subtle nod to the south, such as reclaimed hand-made tile brick behind the full service bar as well as maître d’ stand and dining tables hand-crafted by Kyle and Julep’s two sous chefs.

Julep serves lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday as well as brunch on the weekends. For more information visit: www.juleprino.com
