The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra‘s May finale, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” is nearly upon us and it’s going to be BIG!
This event will take place this Thursday, May 21st 2015. There is so much in store so I figured it’s probably best to break it down into sections:
Food Truck Tailgate
Family-friendly food tailgating party. Taste delicious foods provided by the food trucks: Rolling Smoke BBQ, Mikes2Kitchen and Ba-NOM-a-NOM.
Planes
Paper plane competition, where the fastest plane thrower will win a pair of 2015/2016 season tickets for The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra.
Trains
Check out Steve Bulota‘s 1950 American Flyer model train set. It will be located in the concert hall.
Automobiles
Tesla is bringing two of their newest Model S‘s, one for test driving (COOL!) and the other for taking “selfies” with or simply drooling over (or both). In order to test drive you will need to sign up. Sign up here.
The Concert
The main concert itself features award-winning pianist Fei-Fei Dong playing Adam‘s “Short Ride In a Fast Machine” that will accelerate to the American jazz classic, “Rhapsody in Blue” and crosses the finish line with Prokofiev’s “Symphony No. 5”, which, at times, sounds like a maniacal machine off to the races. (The concert runtime is 66 minutes with a 15 minute interval).
Post Concert Nightcap
When the concert is over, head over to Oblio’s Capitol Hill Tavern at 1225 Logan Street, Denver 80203, to sip on concert-themed cocktails and provide your concert ticket stub in order to get Happy Hour rates!
The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra will be live-tweeting throughout the event. Those tweets will include program notes, photos and trivia so go ahead and feel free to use your cellphone (on silent during the actual concert) and join in by tweeting back! ( Twitter handle @DenverPhilOrch )
Ticket prices are reasonable so this is another big plus!
1 Adult : $20.00
2 or more purchasing together: $17.50 each
65+ Adults: $15
Students (with an ID card): $10
Children under the age of 12: FREE
