When you go and pick remember these things – wear a hat, close-toed shoes, sunscreen and bug spray. Most farms will ask you to leave the pets at home, but bring water and snacks or a lunch. When you bring the food home, do remember to wash it well and enjoy every bite!

BERRY PATCH FARMS

Berry Patch Farms is a certified organic farm, has been in business since 1991 and welcoming people onto to pick their own food since 1994. The farm has plenty to fill your bags and baskets with strawberries in June, raspberries and cherries coming up in July and mid August, basil, flowers and pickling cucumbers later in the season. They do pick-your-own June through September and any other produce they grow is available in the Barn Store. Check their website for what is in season and consider heading to the farm for field trips, birthdays and special occasions.

YA YA FARM AND ORCHARD

Ya Ya Farm and Orchard has 1000 well loved fruit trees and abundant fields with plenty to pick for your table from July through November. Throughout the season you can pick apples, pears, cherries, pumpkins, veggies and flowers, and fruit is by reservation so make yours soon! They charge a reasonable $3 for admission into the farm and $12 per bag of produce that hold quite a bit. In addition to the beautiful trees and fields, they have Percheron Draft Horses to eat the food that can’t be sold and they are stunning to look at!

HAPPY APPLE FARM

Happy Apple Farm is a little further out of Denver but worth a day trip. This farm has U-Pick apples, blackberries, raspberries, pears and fall pumpkins and does not charge admission. When the apples start to become ripe in August you can pick them at $1.99/lb, which is cheaper than many of the apples in the grocery store. On the weekends the farm pulls out all the stops for visitors and offers free hayrides, sell apple smoked brisket and pulled pork, Apple Cider Donuts, Blackberry cobbler and so much more! Find out what is in season and plan to visit the farm in early September for fresh pressed Apple Cider.

MILLER FARMS

Miller Farms has a spectacular fall festival that happens daily from Labor Day through mid November and is only $2 for admission! Going to the farm involves a tractor ride with stops to pick vegetables and getting hands dirty. They have other great activities like a petting zoo, a corn maze and stroll through Antique Alley which has cars, trucks, helicopters and airplanes! Vegetables will be available by season but can include potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, corn, squash and more. If you don’t feel like picking they have all those options in their roadside stand and have delicious roasted chiles as well. Check their website to make reservations and find out more!
