Enjoy the classical story of Maria and the Von Trapp Family this weekend with The Sound of Music Musical performing for a limited time only at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. This spirited, romantic and beloved musical story, directed by Jack O’Brien, will thrill audiences with its Tony, Grammy and Academy Award-winning Best Score, including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and “The Sound of Music”.

The 16th Street Fair is an annual celebration of fine art, handcrafted goods, and the 16th Street Mall in Downtown Denver. Take a stroll along the 16th Street Mall to enjoy a showcase of emerging artists and designers, producing original and unique handmade goods, in a wide array of media. This is Downtown Denver’s premier art and craft festival located in the city center along the busiest pedestrian street in the State.
National Pollinator Week at Denver Botanic Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens, are hosting special activities throughout the weekend in honor of National Pollinator Week at both the York Street location in Denver and at their Chatfield Farms location! Featured are Pollinator-related classes, activities and booths for young and old alike. Learn how to fight garden diseases and pests without harming pollinators, learn how to do the honeybee’s waggle dance, taste honey or take a class in which you build and take home a bee hotel. Boulder Dance Coalition International Festival

The Boulder Dance Coalition International Festival, presented by Boulder Dance Coalition, brings you some of the best talent in the state representing many flavors of dance and music, with performances, dance teaching, and an emphasis on participation.
A public square dance kicks off the festival on Friday evening, and throughout the weekend there are opportunities for beginners to learn easy dances such as: Folk, Waltz, Salsa, Zumba, and more. Stroll through the vendor area and sample imported handmade items and arts and crafts from other countries.

Sand in the City

Arvada Chamber of Commerce‘s 4th Annual Sand in the City Festival is Colorado’s premier beach party, expected to attract 15,000+ visitors this year. See giant sand sculptures, enjoy local food & artisan vendors, a kids’ zone that includes free activities such as: “Bury the Treasure”, a photo booth, ‘Make & Take’ crafts, a hula hoop station, face painting, air brush tattoos, inflatables, rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline, obstacle course and much more! A portion of all proceeds from Sand in the City will benefit the Jeffco Schools Foundation.
Sand in the City Kids’ Zone Schedule
Saturday, June 25th: 11am First 200 kids to arrive will receive a free sand pail; 1:30pm Water Balloon Toss; 2:30pm Sand 101 Training Class, learn the basic skills to create your own sculpture (kids 4 and older); 3:30pm Water Bucket Brigade; 4pm Kids’ Luau (lei making, games, ukulele lessons, hula lessons etc.); 4:30pm Sand 101 Training Class.

Coors Light South Platte RiverFest

The Coors Light South Platte RiverFest is Denver’s premier urban River Festival, benefiting The Greenway Foundation, and includes events such as Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)/ Kayak/ Tube Races and SUP Showcases. Other activities include free stand up paddle board demos, a variety of riverside recreational activities, a kids zone, live music, beer, food vendors, and more.

Pollinator Garden Launch at Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo is launching its Pollinator Garden, in partnership with Swingle. Get a view of how birds, insects and plants work together to thrive. The garden’s location near Bird World was purposely planned to highlight the important relationship between birds and plants, each depend upon one another for survival. In addition to a food source, plants provide shelter to wildlife. Approximately 2,500 square feet in size, the garden will showcase a beautiful water feature that will serve as a water source for birds and insects.
In partnership with the National Wildlife Federation, the Denver Zoo is thrilled to announce that the Pollinator Pathway will also be the 200,000th Certified Wildlife Habitat in the United States.
Lessons & Lemonade + Teen Art Studio

Highlands Street Fair

The Highlands Street Fair, presented by Highlands Square, is a family-friendly event for all ages and this year kicks off with traditional bagpipe and then continues on with 13 national and local bands on two stages until dusk. Don’t miss the two Kids Zones with amusements for kids young and old and tasty food in the three food courts.
There will also be over 170 vendor booths with artisan wares, leather goods, jewelry, photography, paintings, pottery, clothing and furniture. Visitors can explore the mix of shops, boutiques and services along West 32nd Ave.

Jefferson County Open Space Nature and History Programs are hosting a special Foothill Wildflowers tour, presented by Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Hiwan Homestead Museum. Stroll with a Native Plant Master along easy trails identifying and naming local plants. Search for spring flowers and discover the importance of native plants to wildlife and humans.
The hike will take place on Lodgepole Loop trail and will be an easy hike with frequent stops to see what is in bloom. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water, snacks, sunscreen, etc. as needed.
