National Beer Day 2016 Denver | The Denver Ear

Thursday, April 7th, 2016 is National Beer Day!

On April 7th, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer, in the United States, as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV).  Beer drinkers celebrated and were happy to be able to purchase beer again for the first time in thirteen years.

To celebrate National Beer Day 2016 today we have listed a guide of 10 local Denver Breweries and Tap Rooms we recommend you try.

1. Alpine Dog Brewing Company

Alpine Dog Brewing Company, located at 1505 Ogden St, is known to be a key contributor to the transformation of Denver’s Colfax Avenue. The brewery prides itself with its love for the Colorado outdoors, dogs and of course great craft beer. (Hence the name Alpine Dog). Alpine Dog creates small batches of unique beers and have 17 craft brews to choose from.

2. Beryl’s Beer Co.

Beryl’s Beer Co., located at 3120 Blake St, is a staple in the River North Arts District and is considered a niche brewery due to its specialization in barreled beers. By barrel-aging many of their hand-crafted beers, they craft inspiring flavors that you may not be expecting. Psst.. Their most known beer is the 1876 Colorado Ale which is not only a tasty and smooth beer, but also donates $1 from every sale to Denver Beer Olympics, a local charity raising money for leukemia and other blood disease research through beer.

3. Bull & Bush Brewery

Bull & Bush Brewery, located at 4700 Cherry Creek Dr S, is an authentic English brewery and pub. The Bull & Bush has been around for over 45 years and its adjacent brewery for nearly 20 years and its brews have won multiple awards such as at the annual Denver-hosted Great American Beer Festival (GABF) and most recently the Bull and Bush’s “MAN BEER” was given the highest honor, a Gold award, at the World Beer Cup – the world’s largest commercial beer competition. They offer a variety of beer styles, mostly English and German.

4. Call to Arms Brewing Company

Call to Arms Brewing Company, located at 4526 Tennyson St, brought its three founders from Avery Brewing in Boulder to the historic Berkeley neighborhood in Denver. They have over 15 taps which are steeped in old-world brewing tradition. All their taps are named Call to Arms with various additions and their tap handles spell out their name. Psst… for National Beer Day, April 7th, they are hosting a free, acoustic live concert by Jason Mcintyre, between 7pm – 9pm.

5. CO-Brew

CO-Brew | The Denver Ear

CO-Brew, located at 1133 Broadway, is Denver’s only homebrew supply store, small-scale brewery, and brew on premises experience. Denver metro home-brewers can find a full selection of grains, hops, yeast and equipment as well as enjoy brewing on-site using professional-grade equipment. CO-Brew also brews beer for customers to enjoy their our tap room while shopping or during a brew session.

6. Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project, located at 3350 Brighton Blvd, is one of the 15 vendors located at The Source in the RiNo Arts District neighborhood. The brewery is focused on Belgian sour beers with a cult-like following in Denver and beyond. Their tap room offers signature beers, like the dry-hopped barrel-aged saison Vielle and the Belgian-inspired white beer St. Bretta, as well as a menu of ever-changing taps.

7. Declaration Brewing Company

Declaration Brewing Company, located at 2030 S Cherokee St, offers over 40 taps, a canning line and a shaded beer garden. The brewery is a quick hop and a skip from the Light Rail’s Evans station and was recently named “One of the 15 new hottest beer bars in the U.S.” and “Top 10 hottest bars in Denver” by Zagat.com. Psst… Declaration Brewing Company is also featured in our Rockies Opening Day 2016 guide so make sure you wish them a belated Happy National Beer Day if you plan on going to their Opening Day Celebration!

8. Denver Beer Co.

Denver Beer Co., located at 1695 Platte St, prides itself as a “farmer’s table” of beer: they frequently change-up the beer menu according to the season and available ingredients. They brew in small batches, ensuring that a few old favorites are always on tap, but new goodies greet visitors each month. Drawing inspiration from beer gardens of Bavaria, they designed Denver Beer Co. to be a place where new and old friends can share a table and pint out-of-doors. Psst… Denver Beer Co. are hosting a spring music festival titled “Sun Drenched Music Festival” on Saturday, May 14th between 12pm – 8pm (as featured in our Spring Festivals 2016 Colorado guide).

9. Grandma’s House

Grandma’s House, located at 1710 S Broadway, is definitely one of the most unique breweries you will experience. This brewery is designed and styled to look like your grandma’s house and even features old-school video games and eclectic decor. The brewery also celebrates all things craft and spotlight many hand-made locally made products.  In addition to their own beers, Grandma’s House allows other aspiring breweries the opportunity to brew their recipes on their brewing system and have them served in their taproom.

10. Ratio Beerworks

Ratio Beerworks, located at 2920 Larimer St, is known for its great beers, brewed by a state of the art 20 barrel system. This Large, industrial taproom features a variety of craft brews, live music concerts, comedy shows, food truck calendar and special events, often taking place in their incredible 4,000 square foot outdoor patio.
