The official date for Veterans Day this year is Wednesday, November 11th. Every year on the weekend before Veterans Day, Denver comes together to celebrate and commemorate our nation’s heroes.

5k/10k Run

Veterans Day 2015 in Denver

The 7th Annual Denver Veterans Day Run will take place on Sunday, November 8th, 2015 and is a memorial race starting on Denver’s scenic Auraria Campus. The route takes runners across Auraria campus, across Speer Blvd, down the Cherry Creek Bike Path, and ends where it began.

The mission of the Denver Veterans Day Run is to celebrate and show support of our Veterans and their untiring efforts on Veterans Day weekend. The event is sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales and hosted by Colorado Veterans Project.

The Denver Veterans Day Run event begins at 8:00am and ends by 10:15am. To register for this run arrive at 900 Auraria Pwky, at 7am to register.

The 5k registration cost will be $35 for civilians, $25 for veterans, $140 for a team of 5, and kids 12 and under are free to participate (without t-shirt or timing bib).

The 10k registration cost will be $45 for civilians, $35 for veterans, $190 for a team of 5, and kids 12 and under are free to participate (without t-shirt or timing bib).

Denver Veterans Day Run proceeds directly benefit local Veteran nonprofit organizations. If you cannot make the date but still wish to donate to the cause that can be done online by visiting their donation page.

Colorado Veterans Project is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that hosts special events in Colorado in order to raise awareness and funds for local Veterans organizations.

Remembrance Ceremony

Veterans Day 2015 in Denver

The Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony will be presented by the Colorado Fallen Heroes Memorial and its sponsors will read the names of those Coloradans killed during the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. The Roll Call Reading will be followed by a brief moment of silence.

The ceremony will take place at the Colorado Veterans Monument at Civic Center Park from 9:45am – 10am.

Veterans Day Parade

Veterans Day 2015 in Denver

The Veterans Day Parade presented by United Launch Alliance will begin at 10am and will start at 14th Street & Colfax Avenue. The parade will be comprised of local Veterans organizations and supporters. The parade will be broken down into serials that represent a different conflict in military history such as: Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc. This will allow spectators to brush up on their military history as well as add a sense of excitement to the event. Each engagement will feature military memorabilia from that era – i.e. old uniforms, vehicles, and weapons. The Veterans organizations have agreed to march together to showcase their organizations historic roots in these eras.

Festival

Veterans Day 2015 in Denver

The Denver Veterans Day Festival will take place at Civic Center Park from 11am – 3pm and is a FREE family-friendly festival that will include: live music, kids activities, wide variety of food, and a beer garden. The festival serves as a celebratory “thank you” to our Veterans who have fought to ensure our freedoms.The Festival will have static displays of both vintage and modern military vehicles for spectators to engage and take photos with. Uniformed men and women will be in attendance and encouraged to interact with children and adults.
