If you have happened to notice that the Clocktower Building on 16th street and the Grand Hyatt Convention Center in downtown Denver, have been lit RED and you asked yourself….
Why are the Denver Buildings lit red?!
Then I have the answer…
The 16th Street Clocktower and the Grand Hyatt Convention Center are red this month due to Blood Cancer Awareness Month. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and these two buildings are helping raise awareness in order to draw attention to blood cancer.
Approximately every 3 minutes one person in the United States (US) is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
An estimated 1,185,053 people in the US are either living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Approximately every 10 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 152 people each day or more than six people every hour.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s leading voluntary non-profit dedicated to blood cancers, aims to raise $400,000 this month as dozens of buildings and landmarks across the nation turn red to increase blood cancer awareness.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the largest voluntary cancer research agency specifically focused on finding cures and better treatments for blood cancer patients. With the scope and scale to fund many projects at the same time, LLS supports hundreds of cancer scientists around the world.
Unlike commercial enterprises that consider blood cancers as “orphan diseases” with small markets and limited profit potential, LLS funds research based on medical need without regard to commercial return or market size. Every dollar invested comes from charitable support from concerned donors.
During September, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is sharing proof of impact; proof that the dedicated efforts of their researchers, volunteers, staff members and supporters are having an impact and making real progress towards achieving the LLS goal to create a world without blood cancers.
